Prom

Traditionally North High School's proms have been held on Memorial Day weekend, with the junior prom on Saturday, and the senior prom on Sunday. Originally, this arrangement was made to accomodate athletic scheduling so as to avoid conflicts between athletic contests and the proms. In addition, the Sunday date is approximately 25% less expensive than a Saturday event, so there is a cost savings for the senior class. Recently, several parents and some staff and students have questioned whether North should continue with a Memorial Day prom weekend, or split the proms so that the junior prom is one weekend, the senior another, and neither on Memorial Day weekend. This would allow families to continue with their traditional Memorial Day plans, and staff and families to enjoy the full Memorial Day weekend. Most schools do have proms split on different weekends. Some schools have combined junior and senior proms, although with the number of attendees North has, there would be few venues which could accomodate such a large group.
