Quite often in my role as principal I am contacted by parents in regards to rumors they've heard about incidents at schools. Sometimes there is no truth to them, sometimes they are quite accurate, and most times there is some kernel of truth coupled with embellishment. To the extent possible, the administrative team at North tries to address rumors and give accurate information. When possible, we try to be proactive and communicate with all parents. Several times in the last two years we have sent letters to parents of all our students on topics ranging from a roof fire to school closings, to safety concerns at the school. In each case we try to weigh carefully privacy rights of individuals (usually minor students), the importance of accurate information, the importance of students and parents feeling comfortable with safety issues, the possible implications of giving too much information, and any associated legal issues that could impact a message. Sometimes we are not allowed by law, or restricted by other factors, to give out all the details parents may want, but we attempt to keep our community informed.
If you or anyone you are in contact with has questions concerning any rumor you hear, or concern for your child's safety or academic progress based on something you've heard, please don't hesitate to contact me or any member of North's administrative team. If we haven't contacted all parents with information, then one of several things is probably true: we ourselves have not heard the rumor, there is no or little truth to it, right to privacy laws have restricted information we can provide to parents, other legal issues have restricted our ability to communicate, or a combination of these or other factors. Please contact us directly with any concerns.
